Post Lasik Care

January 30th, 2012

Lasik Eye Surgery recovery is relatively quick and painless. Most patients recover in 1-3 days after surgery but even with a quick recovery there are still precautions and procedures you need to follow to make sure you heal properly. Your doctor should provide you with a check list to ensure you understand what you need to do but here are a few things you can expect.

After your surgery is complete make sure you go home and rest your eyes, keeping them closed as much as possible. The first few hours after surgery are crucial to the healing process, this is not a time for you to be going back to work or do any other activities. It is important to make sure you are not touching, rubbing, poking or doing anything physical that might hurt your eyes even if it is tempting. Do not drive a vehicle either until your vision has improved, for some this is the next day others wait a little longer.

You also might experience some mild burning or other sensations but make sure you do not rub your eyes. It is normal for your eyes to be dry after surgery but your doctor should provide you with special drops to help with the discomfort. If you experience any other side effects make sure to consult with your doctor. It is recommended that you do not shower the same day or even the next day to avoid water or soap getting in your eyes. At night some patients prefer to sleep with something over their eyes to protect themselves from injury.

These are just basic precautions and procedures to follow after your surgery. Many of these are just recommended and do vary between patients. To get a list of post Lasik eye surgery instructions or to find out more information about getting Lasik, call Vision One Lasik Center Today!

Electronics & Our Eyes

January 23rd, 2012

In the day and age where everything is on the computer and the thought of using a pen and paper went out the window, there are some challenges and concerns for our health. In a study by the National Eye Institute, they found that about 41% of Americans now suffer from nearsightedness, compared to 25% in the 1970’s. This study did not specifically look into computer uses; some doctors are blaming the increase in nearsightedness to indoor activities such as watching TV, computers & using smart phone devices.

Because our generation is now focused more on indoor activities, the development for good vision has decreased. Kids do not get good exercise and development outside anymore and adults that don’t do a lot of activities or spend time outdoors and away from electronics can start to see their vision decrease as well. Some obvious setbacks for good vision would be video games, television, computers, mobile phones and more. If we were outside playing we would have a better change to increase our long distance vision instead of sitting close to electronics indoors.

If you experience nearsightedness and are looking to get some answers or improve your vision call Vision One Lasik Center Today. We are here to answer all your questions  about Lasik eye surgery and provide you with the best service available. Let us help you significantly reduce or eliminate nearsightedness or any other vision problems you might have.

Achieve 20/20 Vision

January 17th, 2012

Do you know what 20/20 vision means? Doctors have determined that 20/20 vision means that you should be able to stand 20 feet away from the eye chart and see clearly. If you are able to see the chart it means you have “normal” vision. Don’t be upset though if you are not one of those people. There are a lot of people that do not have 20/20 vision, but either 20/40 meaning that you can see what someone at 20 feet can see at 40 feet, or some have 20/10 vision, meaning that you see at 10 feet what someone can see at 20 feet.

20/20 vision does not mean you have “perfect” vision either. It only indicates the sharpness or clarity of vision at a distance. There are other important vision skills, including peripheral awareness or side vision, eye coordination, depth perception, focusing ability and color vision that contribute to your overall visual ability. Some people are also able to see at a distance but cannot bring things into focus up close, while others see things close but not far away.

Everyone’s eyes are different and that’s why so many people have contacts and glasses to give them that 20/20 vision or as close to it as possible. Others have sought out Lasik eye surgery so that they can achieve 20/20 vision while being free from contacts and glasses. Vision One Lasik Center specializes in Lasik eye surgery and has helped more people see 20/20 than any other Lasik facility. Contact us today for a consultation and hear about our financing options so that 20/20 vision can be affordable.

Who Is A Lasik Candidate?

December 5th, 2011

Have you been considering Lasik eye surgery but don’t know if you are a good candidate or not? Most people who consider Lasik are good candidates for the surgery but there are cases when some patients are denied. Those who are not good candidates normally have pre existing conditions or other medical problems that complicate the procedure. At Vision One Lasik Center we take the time to get to know our clients and during your first consultation we will discuss if this procedure is right for you. Here are some questions you might want to ask yourself before considering or getting Lasik.

1.       Do I understand the risks that are involved?

  • Although there are very few risks involved in modern Lasik eye surgery, there are still times when complications can occur that would affect your vision.

2.       How long is the recovery?

  • Most patients have improved vision one to two days after surgery. This is an estimated recovery time and can vary between clients. Full recovery and complete healing can take up to six months.

3.       Has my vision been stable enough for this procedure?

  • Minor changes to your prescription contacts and glasses from year to year are common but significant changes could hinder your chances of being a good candidate.

4.       Do I have any health concerns?

  • Consult with your doctor before having surgery about any previous health conditions you may have. Some of them might interfere with the healing process.

5.       Is my age considered acceptable for Lasik?

  • While there might not be any specific rules on an age requirement/limit for Lasik eye surgery, it is not recommended for patients under the age of 18. It might not be recommended for certain older patients as well because of cataracts or other health conditions that develop.

All of these questions are great to ask yourself and doctor before getting Lasik. Remember that the best way to determine if you are a good candidate is to schedule your consultation at Vision One Lasik Center today! We look forward to meeting you & answering all your questions!
